Talawa's 25th anniversary
2011
This year, Talawa proudly celebrates its 25th anniversary. Since our inception the Company has presented everything from Shakespeare to Derek Walcott to Black British writers like Sol B River and Biyi Bandele.
Celebrating 25 years of Talawa
Throughout 2011 we have been celebrating the Company's range and reach by staging new work, showcasing fresh Black British writing, developing talent and reviving a lost classic, The Colored Museum, at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
To culminate Talawa's 25th anniversary celebrations in early 2012 we will reinventing an existing classic when we present Waiting for Godot with an all Black cast directed by Ian Brown at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and on tour.
Michael Buffong, Talawa's newly appointed Artistic Director will take up his post in in Spring 2012.
We've also commissioned a piece of original digital art from artists EVEWRIGHT and Derek Richards. #BlackBritish is built from your answers to the question, 'To you, what does Black British mean now?'
